Meet Your TDSB Teachers Read Panelists: Rahim Essabhai

On Wed. Oct. 18th, 4:30-5:45pm at Library Learning Resources (3 Tippett Road), the Professional Library will be hosting TDSB Teachers Read, a new professional learning opportunity featuring 5 great educators each sharing the book they think all TDSB Teachers should read.

Leading up to the event, we’ll be featuring each TDSB Teachers Read Panelist on this blog so you can learn more about them and the book they’ll be presenting.

Today, meet Rahim Essabhai, Secondary Teacher

TDSB Teachers Read Promo_Rahim

Rahim has taught within TDSB and various other countries for over a decade. He currently teaches Senior Business and Cooperative Education courses at John Polanyi Collegiate Institute, and most definitely enjoys providing his students with real life experiences, both within and exterior to the classroom through Social Entrepreneurship and strong Community Partnerships. Rahim has travelled, taught, volunteered and studied in over 25 countries. His experiences included building a school in Nicaragua (2013) with students and teachers, and also competing in Social Entrepreneurial Business competitions in Russia (2014) and South Korea (2015) with phenomenal John Polanyi CI students.

Rahim will be presenting The Opposable Mind: Winning Through Integrative Thinking by Roger Martin. A classroom resource for John Polanyi’s Grade 12 Business Leadership course, this book brilliantly analyzes real case challenges within the business world and articulates how to use two opposing models to create a third option and solve the messy problems our world has to offer.

If you’re interested in The Opposable Mind, find lots of great resources related to integrative thinking on Rotman’s iThink website

To hear Rahim’s pitch for why all TDSB educators should read The Opposable Mind, join us Wed. Oct. 18th from 4:30pm-5:45pm for our panel discussion.

You can join us in-person at Library Learning Resources (3 Tippett Rd.) or follow us on Twitter @ProfLibraryTDSB to watch a livestream of the event. We’ll also post a recording after the event.
