How Audiobooks Can Help Kids Who Struggle with Reading, written by Linda Flanagan appears on the on the Mindshift  website. Benefits include: engagement; emotional connections; flow and fluency, decoding; new vocabulary/pronunciation. TDSB teachers may contact the library (416.395.8289) for more information on this topic.

How can TDSB teachers find audiotapes? Think also: playaways,  podcasts, read-aloud books/encyclopedia/databases.

The Virtual Library  includes many resources with “read aloud ” features including BookFlix (primary / elementary ebooks), Capstone (junior / intermediate ebooks), Britannica (encyclopedia for all grade levels)), Pebble Go (animals and science information for primary/emerging readers)  and  and CultureGrams (social studies elementary and secondary)

The Teaching Resources collection includes a selection of playaways (like MP3 players) borrowable  by TDSB teachers – contact 395-2101 for more information.

Toronto Public Library offers the Tumblebook Library and Overdrive ebooks and e-audiotapes for kids. Students will need a library card to access.
