Announced by CMEC on October 12, 2106: ” The Copyright Consortium of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), has launched the Copyright Decision Tool, an on-line resource developed for teachers to assist with their understanding of copyright. The new Web site — — helps teachers assess when they can use copyright-protected materials without getting copyright permission under the fair dealing provision of the Copyright Act. ”

The tool – available in a French or English interface – includes:

  • links to the CMEC documents Fair Dealing Guidelines and the 4th edition of Copyright Matters and a 2016 poster on the use of consumables (like workbooks)
  • the decision tool itself – guides you through a series of questions to determine if your copying actions are allowable under the Canadian Copyright Act fair dealing guidelines.

Check it out! I am so excited! Rowan
