The Ministry of Education has released/announced province-wide Board of Ed graduation rates:  High School Graduation Rate Reaches All-Time High of 85.5 Per Cent. “In 2015, the five-year graduation rate surpassed the government’s goal of 85 per cent for the first time. The 2015 rate has increased more than 17 percentage points since 2004, when the graduation rate was just 68 per cent.”

The news release includes a table comparing school boards across the province.

Quick Facts

  • The percentage of students graduating within five years of starting high school in Grade 9 reached 85.5 per cent in 2015, up from 84.3 per cent in 2014. [TDSB % is 81.6]
  • The percentage of students graduating within four years reached 78.3 per cent in 2015, up from 76.3 per cent in 2014. In 2004, the four-year graduation rate was just 56 per cent. [TDSB% is 71.6]

The TDSB Research Department has released a monograph titled TDSB Graduation Rates at All-Time High 2010 – 2015 Graduation Rate. “The Ministry of Education will be publishing the graduation rates for Ontario school boards. The Ministry’s calculation will most likely result in a lower graduation rate for the TDSB because the Ministry employs a different methodology in calculating school board graduation rates.”

“The 2010-2015 graduation rate for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is 85%, an increase of 1% from the previous Fall 2009-2014 cohort. Since the TDSB began tracking graduation rates in 2000 there has been a 16% increase (69% to 85%).”
