Emotionally healthy boys

On February 18 2016, the Toronto Star (print edition. p T6)) ran a Q & A  interview, titled It’s High Time to Shake up the Influence  of the Old Boys Club, between reporter Katrina Clarke and and Ontario educator, author, father  Michael Reist, here (online edition, titled  Man-boys, Charlie Sheen-like Role Models and Boys need for Movement and Space).

The following statements are from the interview:

“My central thesis is that the number one problem affecting males today is emotional repression. And the question is when does this repression begin? When boys enter school the first thing they experience is a shutdown of their boy energy, their need for movement and space.”

” Young boys and men are going to have to retool to fit themselves into this new economy which is about language, which is about connection, which is about relationships. To be a man is no longer to be silent and strong and the bread winner. That world has passed away”

Reist’s new book is titled Raising Emotionally Healthy Boys (2015) and is available  in the Professional Library Catalogue. “When talking about the emotional health of boys, we need to start with a vision of what kid of me we want our boys to become.” (p.16). We also have Reist’s 2011 book titled Raising Boys in a New Kind of World.
