Teacher-Student Relationships

The Canadian Education Association has released the latest in the Facts on Education Series, titled What is the influence of teacher-student relationships on learning?

The conclusion is: “learning is enhanced when teacher-student relationships are strong”.  Here are some key points:

  1. Being kind matters.
  2. Positive teacher-student relationships are socially contagious.
  3. Positive teacher-student relationships benefit vulnerable students most.
  4. Teacher responsiveness to student differences is crucial to relationship building.
  5. Teacher-student relationships matter regardless of grade level.
