The Ministry has released 3 new monographs in the Capacity Building series, and #43 is titled Supporting Teenage and Single Parent Learners to Complete High School.

Selected from page 1:

  • Individuals who become parents at a young age often become disengaged from school for a variety of reasons.
  • The intent of the Single Parent Initiative, described in this monograph, is to re-engage young parents in schooling so that they – and their children – can minimize the risk of experiencing poverty

page 5 lists several keys to success:

  • renewing motivation to learn
  • trusting relationship between learners and instructors
  • flexible, customized curriculum delivery
  • strong community partnerships
  • wrap-around supports (childcare, transportation, finances)
  • supportive peer relationships

Check it out for details!
