Autism resources (one new article; one fabulous resource list)

The Canadian Education Association (CEA) website is offering a preview of an article from the not-yet-released September issue of Education Canada. Written by K. Duesk, F. Meek and M. Rogers, the article is titles Myths & facts about ADHD in Children: Implications for educators.

Here are the 6 myths (as always you have to read the article for the details):

  1. Hyperactivity and impulsivity are the main causes of academic problems for children with ADHD.
  2. ADHD is a behavioural disorder
  3. ADHD symptoms are localized to a single brain region
  4. ADHD only involves over-activation of associated neural areas
  5. The neurological correlates of ADHD are completely understood
  6. Biological treatments are the only option for children with ADHD

During 2014/15, the TDSB Autism Department generously donated copies of books on autism to the Professional Library, augmenting our already fabulous collection. Here is the list of what was donated: Autism-Sept2015. Note that we have many additional resources (books and articles) and the resource list includes a link to the larger list (in Google docs – remember to login using your TDSB login.

Check it out!
