The American Educational Research Association has created a new page on their Issues and Initiatives page website titled LGBTQ Issues in Education.

Below is some selected content from their site; note that the site includes additional information/resources:

“Recent legal, social, and policy shifts in support of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people are causing educators and education researchers to address LGBTQ issues with a new sense of legitimacy and urgency.

Fact Sheets

Here are a couple of recent titles available from the Professional Library (we have more). TDSB teachers will have to login with their network password to reserve

TDSB  has a Gender-based Violence Prevention page and policy.

And, as per the People for Education’s Draft Competencies, page 9 in the Health section, read:

” Competencies that support student well-being in relation to sexuality

  • Students develop a secure sexual identity.
  • Students respect the sexual identities of others.
  • Students understand the importance of intimate relationships that are caring, respectful and non-violent.
  • Students understand the role of social media in sexual health and how to be respectful and responsible in that context.
  • Students have the capacity to manage risks make good decisions regarding their sexuality.”

Lots of important reading here. Check it out!
