If  you have not already done so,  Ontario teachers need to bookmark this site: LearnTeachLead.

And for a spot of summer professional learning, look for this: “This summer we’ll be releasing Empowered by Design, a resource that documents the transformation of Queen Alexandra Middle School. Witness students as they develop the skills to become creative critical thinkers, collaborative problem solvers and responsible citizens”

LearnTeachLead has released a 4 minute “video teaser”, Empowered by Design and narrated by Mary Jean Gallagher, Chief Student Achievement Officer. Here you’ll find all the strategies that accompany schools making changes/the new effective school:

  • teachers as co-learners, co-designers, co-instructors, co-assessors
  • engagement through real life learning, student choice, student voice and executive functions
  • parents as partners
  • inquiry learning, effective questioning, critical thinking, integrated use of technology
  • frequent assessment, presentation of knowledge/communication of learning
  • excellence, equity

And if anyone wants summer reading to support these concepts, contact the Library at (416) 395-8289 or

Happy summer everyone. Remember that the Library is OPEN for BUSINESS during July and August.
