With thanks to the TDSB Science department we have received a series of 5 booklets:
- Mammals of Toronto: A Guide to their Remarkable world
- Spiders of Toronto
- Fishes of Toronto
- Butterflies of Toronto
- Reptiels and Amphibians of Toronto
This series is a collaboration between the City, the ROM, Livegreen Toronto, the Zoo, et al, and includes text, photos, artwork (one of the artist contributors is Robert Bateman). Copyright dates are 2011, 2012 and each booklet is about 60-80 pages.
From the city web page ” the Biodiversity Booklet Series will help to re-connect people with the natural world, and raise awareness of the seriousness that biodiversity loss represents and how it affects them directly. The Series will help cultivate a sense of stewardship in residents; inform the City of the current state of local biodiversity and how current City policies, procedures and operations can be enhanced, altered or revised in order to help mitigate local biodiversity loss.” Copies are available through TPL.
Reading level would be Jr level and higher but the illustrations will appeal to young and old alike. These should be in every Toronto school library .
Whew! Enjoy the weekend.
